- Engaged Scholarship: Evaluating Community Care for Older Adults, 2012-2018
To evaluate the degree of uptake and utilization of evidence-based research through the use of pocket tools by practitioners, policy makers and by the public, including seniors and their families. - Developing an Action Plan for Addressing Social Isolation in Urban Dwelling Asian Seniors, 2015-2017
The purpose of the project is to develop an action plan detailing strategies that promote age-friendliness in the Kensington-Chinatown Neighbourhood (KCN). The research team will conduct a needs assessment of KCN by conducting telephone interviews with older Chinese residents who live in the neighbourhood. The team will also hold focus groups with residents and practitioners who work with older adults in the area to identify priorities for improvement.
- Financial Literacy and First Nations Custodial Grandparents, 2015-2016
Recent research has shown that Canadians of First Nations origin, including North American Indians, Métis, and Inuit, are vastly over-represented among grandparents raising grandchildren in skipped generation households in Canada (households which include only grandparents and grandchildren. The aim of this project, with the direction provided by First Nations communities, is to foster economic security for older adults through enhanced financial literacy and the development of user-friendly financial literacy tools and resources. Proposed tools include Financial Literacy for Legal Issues and Costs, Government Benefits and Subsidies, Band Issues, and Budgeting for the Needs of Children Today.
